Best Sweaters for winter

If you spend half as much time as I do in menswear stores (which I hope you don’t care for the sake of your health), you’ve probably noticed that there are about a billion different styles of sweaters for males. That is, at least, how it appears. A man dressed in a grey cardigan sweater

Every year, our favorite menswear labels release new colors, materials, and patterns, resulting in many handsome sweaters to select. And I spend an awful amount of money on them every year. But, when I attempt to place them in my (very) overflowing sweater drawer, I can’t help but notice that they appear remarkably identical to sweaters I already possess.

Sure, they have brighter colors and less wear and tear, but they’re mostly just updated versions of sweater types I already own. It is because, while millions of men’s sweaters are on the market, there are only a few men’s sweaters designs.

List of Seven Best Sweaters for winter

We can wear many different sweaters for the winter season. However, Neonpolice has created a list of the best seven sweaters for winter to build up your winter wardrobe. The list of the best seven sweaters for winter is as follows:

1. V-Neck Sweater

V-Neck Sweater

The v-neck is an absolute must-have sweaters for winter in any intelligent man’s wardrobe, and it’s easy to see why. V-necks are incredibly flexible. Wear one in a slim-fitting lightweight fabric like merino wool over top of a shirt and tie or even under a suit. If you choose one in heavier cotton or wool, you can mix it with jeans and chukka boots for a classic outfit that will take you practically anywhere. To learn more about how your neck should fit, see my review of Uniqlo’s lightweight merino wool vees, among the most remarkable men’s sweaters on the market.

2. Crew Neck Sweater in Light or Medium Weight

Crew necks are a close second to the v-neck in terms of versatility and timeless fashion.

Crew necks, like v-necks, differ in everything from fabric and weight to color and pattern, so you could possess hundreds of them and yet not have any wardrobe redundancies. Crew necks are more formal than v-necks sweaters for winters, but like vees, they may dress up or down. Look for crew necks that hang looser around your neck, implying a more relaxed, laid-back feel if you want to keep your crew necks looking a little more casual.

3. Cardigan with Shawl Collar

It is my favorite of the nine varieties of men’s sweaters for winter on this list, and I don’t believe I’m alone. What I like about the shawl neck cardigan is that, while it’s comfortable, it still has an element of style. Take a look at the photo of Daniel Craig above.

He’s only wearing a sweater, a henley, and a pair of trousers, yet he looks put together, slick, and manly. Remember that, as with many sweaters for men, wearing one of these bad boys is one thing, but rocking one is quite another.

4. Pullover with Shawl Collar

A shawl collar pullover, the shawl collar cardigans are somewhat less formal sweaters for winter. They are a terrific alternative for males wishing to outgrow the collegiate appearance and ease themselves into a mature man’s wardrobe. A shawl collar pullover is unique in that it is not as prevalent as, for example, a crew neck. So just by wearing one, you communicate the notion that you put some thought into your style.

5. Cardigan

Non-shawl neck cardigans have gotten a poor rap for years. They are the most casual sweaters for winter. As much as we all adored Mr. Rogers, I blame him for making cardigans look so well, old man-ish.

Fortunately, a new generation of modern style icons has recovered the cardigan for the twenty-first century, and I couldn’t be happier. Guys like Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Ryan Reynolds are making cardigans popular again and demonstrating how to wear them modernly. What is the key? Maintain a slender figure. Mr. Rogers’ sweaters were so baggy that they resembled a housecoat.

6. Mock Neck/Half-Zip/Quarter-Zip

A half-zip sweater features a collar that rises to cover your neck and a zipper that runs halfway down the front (thus the name) and ends somewhere about your chest. The naming standards become a little hazy here but bear with me. Because the zipper runs one-quarter down the sweater, this design is known as a quarter zip sweater. A mock neck has a collar instead of a zipper closed with a few buttons. It is similar to a cardigan or henley. Both designs resemble a turtle neck with a placket in the center when wholly dressed.

7. Shirt for Rugby

Rugby shirts are an excellent way to enhance your casual sweaters for winter. They narrowly edged out hoodies on our list. While particular hoodies can look lovely in specific situations, they wear them as baggy atrocities that make the wearer appear to have given up on life (or, at the very least, given up on appearing acceptable in public—pretty much the same thing). Rugby shirts, however, express casual cool while allowing you to seem put together. As is customary, opt for a solid color that fits thin, ideally without any showy insignia. Consider a long-sleeve polo, such as this one, for a little dressier choice.

Conclusion

These are some of the best seven sweaters for winter that you need to add to your winter collection for this year. Moreover, check out the official Neonpolice website to learn more about sweaters for women, cardigans for women, and more such articles.
